SIGMA BESS · battery energy storage for businessLast week you could have made2,932 € with a 2,170 kWh battery
… if your site had our battery. Not a forecast — a calculation on real exchange prices and the optimal charge and discharge schedule.
See how it connects to your siteHow the battery connects to your site
Pick a setup and watch how energy flows through the day — from the grid, from PV and from the battery.
Own consumption
The battery sits behind the meter and takes over the expensive hours. The site buys power when it is cheap and runs on the battery when it is expensive.
PV + own consumption
Solar powers the site and the surplus is stored instead of being exported at a low midday price.
Consumption + sale
The battery serves the site and sells the rest to the grid when prices peak.
Standalone trading
A battery connected straight to the grid, with no site behind it. It trades on the exchange and provides balancing services.
Solar park add-on
The battery is added to an existing solar park and shifts sales from the cheap midday to the evening peak.
Island mode
When the grid fails, the battery becomes the grid — it sets voltage and frequency and the site keeps running.
Applications of BESS battery storage
Peak shaving, renewable integration, demand response, grid enhancement and microgrids — including the most demanding application of all, Frequency Containment Reserve.

Frequently asked questions about BESS and energy storage batteries
Short answers to the questions companies ask most often before choosing a battery.
What is a BESS?
A BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) is a battery system that stores electricity. It charges when power is cheap or when solar PV produces a surplus, and discharges when prices are high or the grid goes down. A system combines LFP battery cells, an inverter (PCS), a battery management system (BMS), an energy management system (EMS), cooling and fire suppression.
What do businesses use energy storage batteries for?
The six most common uses are: storing the midday solar surplus for the evening, arbitrage on hourly exchange prices, peak shaving, backup power and island mode, grid balancing services (FCR and aFRR), and powering fast EV chargers where the grid connection is limited. One battery can combine several of them.

What size battery do I need for a solar PV plant?
It depends on the midday surplus, the evening consumption and the grid connection capacity of the site. We offer cabinets of 233, 261 and 418 kWh and containers of 2170 and 5015 kWh. Send us your load profile and the plant data and we will size the battery for your site.
How much does a battery earn and how fast does it pay back?
It depends on the spread between cheap and expensive hours on the exchange and on how the battery is used. At the top of this page you can see the result on real exchange prices from the last 7 days for each of our models, and every product page has a calculator for your own PV and load. For an exact payback period, send an enquiry and you will get a calculation for your site.

How long does an industrial battery last?
The batteries use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells rated for more than 8,000 cycles, with 89% round-trip efficiency. At one full cycle a day that is over 20 years of cycling; actual service life also depends on the operating mode and temperature.
Are energy storage batteries safe?
We use LFP cells, which withstand overheating better than other lithium chemistries. Every system has liquid cooling, a battery management system (BMS) and built-in fire suppression. The ECO-E20FT2170LP-2 container is certified to UL 9540A, and the manufacturer is certified to ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and ISO 45001.

Can the battery power the site during an outage?
Yes. Models with island mode take over the load when the grid fails and set frequency and voltage themselves, and the Galaxy 261L switches automatically between grid and island mode. The battery can also work as an online UPS for sensitive loads and data centres.
